Good-bye Louie
We said good-bye to Louie this past Sunday. We were sad to see him leave but we are excited about his future. Our beagles said good-bye too, especially Belle. She wouldn't let Louie leave without one more wrestle match. So, we'll leave you with one more video and a few more adorable photos in the slideshow. Enjoy and please remember to support your local animal rescues. They do wonderful work by saving animals like Louie and finding them forever homes.

A new home!
We are very excited and happy because Louie has found a new home. A wonderful family in Seattle will be adopting Louie. A lot was done to make sure it was a good match (especially given the distance involved) and now the final preparations have been made. Louie will be leaving for Seattle on Sunday, almost exactly a month after he came to stay with us. We've had a wonderful time with Louie and our beagles will miss playing with him. We have a few more days left with Louie so stay tuned for one last video and a few more photos before we say good-bye!

Progress report
Louie is making tons of progress in our home. He is now housebroken: he hasn't had an accident in our home in several weeks. When he wants to go outside he sits quietly by the door. He quickly does his business outdoors and then heads for the door to be let back in. He has little interest in staying outside and who can blame him when it's 30 to 40 degrees out there! Indoors, he settles down very nicely especially in the evenings. He loves to cuddle with us on the couch. He rarely makes a sound except when he's wrestling with Belle - the two of them love to have a barking contest. He still likes to chew so we are constantly turning his attention towards raw marrow bones. He loves to chew on them in addition to other toys but he's still learning what is a toy and what isn't. Overall, he's adjusting very well to being an indoor dog and will make a great companion for someone.

Homeward Trails - thank you!
We are thrilled to announce that Homeward Trails accepted Louie into their rescue. The exposure they will give him will most certainly help him find a home. We will still foster Louie until he finds a home, but they will handle the adoption process. Homeward Trails is a wonderful rescue organization; several friends of ours have found their pets through this organization and had great experiences. Check out their website and look at their upcoming adoption days so you can meet Louie Dog. Oh, and check out Louie's new profile page that they added on Petfinder! We are so grateful for their help. Thank you, Homeward Trails! And a special thanks to our friend Wendy for the introduction :-)

New bandana
Louie is sporting his new red "Adopt Me" bandana! It arrived in the mail this afternoon from www.bandanamania.com (thanks, Barb!) and we are so excited to get him out and about so people know he's up for adoption. It's too bad he wasn't wearing it this morning when we were at Shirlington Park with his beagle buddies but we'll head back there tomorrow. Everyone he met at the park commented on how friendly he is and how incredibly soft his fur is - it feels like a fleece blanket! Speaking of his fur, he doesn't shed! It's possible he will when it's warmer but we are amazed at the lack of shedding so far.

Snow day!
Today, we woke up to 6 inches of powder on the ground. For us it means shoveling the driveway, but for the doggies it means fun in the snow! The adventure started on our deck where Louie and his foster siblings ran in circles around the table sticking their noses in the snow and throwing it up in the air. Louie loved it and we could tell they were all itching for more exercise. So, off we went to the dog park. Louie behaved extremely well and as usual he enjoyed racing around the park with the other dogs. So far he hasn't had any issues socializing with other dogs. Louie is now exhausted and sleeping on the couch with his head on his foster dad's lap. Have I mentioned he's quite a good snuggler?
